Indoor Hockey UK are a company, registered in England & Wales, that is investing in, and developing indoor hockey across the United Kingdom. We are passionate about the exciting fast paced format of the game and looking for additional opportunities to enable the sustainability of the sport.
We feel indoor hockey has an important part to play in developing skills, fitness and tactical awareness.
In the UK, indoor hockey has been neglected for many years, despite interest from teams, officials and spectators. Indoor Hockey UK hopes to change this and deliver a clear structure by giving those that are interested the opportunities to get involved. We are looking to establish a presence that places indoor hockey front and centre, with our aim to create a one stop shop for everything indoor hockey related, which will help promote the sport and increase participation.
The indoor events we organise attract teams from Under 10's to Over 60's, and each year reach thousands of people across the world. We organise a number of activates and have attracted teams and officials right around the UK, and travellers from Argentina, The Netherlands and Australia. Both our Championships and Derby Grand Slam attract over 120 teams each year, creating some of the biggest indoor hockey events on offer.
In February 2004, the first ever indoorhockey.co.uk event started as an invitational tournament at the Brentwood Centre, Essex, with one age group on one day.
2011 became the year when the age groups changed in line with the national level change. Rather than U9s, U11s and U13s, it became U10s, U12s, U14s. We also introduced the U16 age group for the first time.
indoorhockey.co.uk made a huge effort this year to improve the entire feel of the event, with the introduction of stage lighting and music. Tournament organisers wanted to recreate as near as possible the atmosphere of a National Tournament as "only a few children ever get the opportunity to play at the highest level and this is their chance to experience all the razzmatazz."
This year saw continued interest and growth around the tournament, with the event taking place across three days for the very first time.
This year saw the introduction of indoorhockeyUK as the event name, replacing the previous indoorhockey.co.uk. It's also the first year the "Rory the Player" logo was used for the event. This was also the final year the event was held at the Brentwood Centre.
#indoorhockeyUK moved to the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and became the very first indoor hockey event held at this venue.
2018 is the year #indoorhockeyUK established its Championship event, officially moving it to the dates between Christmas and New Year, where it still sits within the hockey calendar.
2019 was a big year for #indoorhockeyUK, as it was the first time we held an event outside of our Championships. The Derby Grand Slam was introduced and held at Derby Arena, becoming the first indoor hockey event ever held at this venue.
In October 2019 our "Rory the Player" branding was officially retired and replaced with the "Indoor Hockey Shield". The shield took many hours of design and features both male and female players as well as 12 segments - one for each age group we held competitions for at the time. It has also been said the top of the shield looks like a roof with the players being under it, representing indoor hockey.
The worldwide Covid-19 pandemic meant no indoor hockey could be played across the UK, and most of the world.
ECHA and #ihUK reached an agreement that saw the 4 divisional Essex League become #indoorhockeyUK events.
We became official - an officially registered company with Companies House!
#indoorhockeyUK and East Hockey Limited reached a partnership agreement which saw the East Adult Indoor competitions join the #indoorhockeyUK family!
To help improve the professional image and maintain a consistent brand across the board, we updated to officially be known as Indoor Hockey UK.
